The Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Dr. Shadric Namalomba, has commended progress in the implementation of the Connect a School Project following visits to Mpotola/Nathendo Community Day Secondary School in Machinga, Nkope Community Day Secondary School in Mangochi, and St. Peters Community Day Secondary School in Balaka.
The schools are among the beneficiaries of Smart Computer Laboratories being constructed by the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) through the Universal Service Fund (USF) to expand access to digital learning and improve ICT infrastructure in schools across Malawi.
During the visits, Dr. Namalomba reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to using technology to improve education and advance Malawi’s digital transformation agenda. He noted that investments in ICT are critical in equipping learners with digital skills that support innovation, entrepreneurship, and national development.
The Minister further encouraged schools and surrounding communities to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper utilisation and sustainability.
The Connect a School Project is a key USF-supported digital inclusion initiative that will deliver 75 Smart Computer Laboratories under Phase I, with an additional 120 schools targeted under Phase II. The project is helping to bridge the digital divide and promote equitable access to quality digital education for learners across the country.
