The interventions reflect USF’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and ensuring that every learner, regardless of their circumstances or abilities, has the opportunity to benefit from digital technologies.
Malawi took part in the 3rd Giga Connectivity Forum, held in Geneva on 8 to 9 October 2026, where governments, regulators, universal service institutions, and global partners came together around one urgent mission: to connect every school.
The Malawi delegation comprised the Deputy Chief Secretary and Comptroller of Statutory Corporations, Mr Stuart Ligomeka; MACRA Board Chairperson, Counsel Chancy Gondwe; MACRA Director General, Dr Mayamiko Nkoloma; and the Acting Head of the Universal Service Fund (USF), Mr Khumbo Kasambara.
The USF is working towards this mission through its Connect-A-School project, which is being developed to bring connectivity to schools and learners in rural and underserved communities, where the digital divide is felt most.
The forum provided a valuable opportunity to share Malawi’s experience and learn from other countries on planning, financing, and capacity building. These lessons will help shape the project so that it delivers real, lasting impact for schools, learners, and communities.
