Broadband Mapping and Digital Literacy Programme – Training of Trainers
As part of its commitment to bridging the digital divide, the Universal Service Fund (USF) is implementing the Broadband Mapping and Digital Literacy Programme (BMDLP). The initiative focuses on identifying broadband coverage gaps while building digital skills among communities, particularly in unserved and underserved areas of Malawi. The programme seeks to empower individuals with digital literacy, promote safe and responsible use of digital tools, and encourage the adoption of ICT services for innovation and development.
To achieve this, the USF rolled out Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions across the country. From 4th to 8th August 2025, regional sessions were conducted in all four regions: Northern, Southern, Central, and Eastern.
These sessions equipped selected trainers with the knowledge and resources to cascade digital skills training to communities in their respective regions.
Building on this momentum, the USF hosted a second round of training sessions from 19th to 22nd August 2025 in Salima, Mzuzu, Mangochi, and Blantyre. This phase targeted Digital Ambassadors, focusing on practical skills for everyday digital engagement. Ambassadors were trained in essential digital skills, safe use of mobile services, and strategies to avoid online scams and fraud.
By empowering Digital Ambassadors, the USF is ensuring that knowledge is not only centralized but also decentralized to grassroots communities, creating a ripple effect of digital literacy. These ambassadors will champion digital inclusion, guiding individuals on the proper and beneficial use of digital products and services, thereby fostering safer and more informed digital engagement across Malawi.
