The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have explored opportunities for collaboration to advance Malawi’s digital transformation, with a strong focus on initiatives that complement the Universal Service Fund’s (USF) digital inclusion agenda.
During the meeting, the two institutions discussed potential areas of partnership, including digital skills development for young people, responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), data protection, and the use of the National Identity system to support SIM card verification.
Particular emphasis was placed on programmes that will equip secondary school learners with digital skills, building on ongoing USF initiatives aimed at expanding access to digital technologies and preparing young people for the digital economy.
The engagement also highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships to promote secure, inclusive, and responsible use of digital technologies while accelerating digital transformation across Malawi.
Through strategic collaborations such as this, the USF continues to support initiatives that promote digital literacy, strengthen digital inclusion, and expand opportunities for all Malawians to participate in the country’s growing digital economy.
